Episode 10 Recap & Ending Explained
The episode 10 of Scandal of Chun-hwa continues from where the episode 9 stopped, with Hwa-ri in a state of shock having had a heartbreaking conversation with Choi Hwan. Hwa-ri is still in a state of shock when she goes to see the king and reveals herself as the author of the Chun-hwa’s Love Story. She is at her most fragile moment, she begs the king to spare the lives of the people who have been affected by the aftermath. But the king’s punishment is severe: Hwa-ri has to marry Jang Won. On the other hand, as Choi Hwan is a wanted man now, Hwa-ri meets him one last time at the publishing house. She tells him about her meeting with the king and the plea she made to him and she hopes that he suffers as much as she does and parts ways. The last scene shows Choi Hwan in a state of utter emotional distress, crying his heart out, as Hwa-ri walks away from him, both of them aware that he is going to pay for what they have done.

Hwa-ri, determined to stand by the crown princess, goes the bold way of addressing a gathering of women and asking them to sign the petition to demand the nullification of the royal marriage. It works, and many others follow suit, including Hwa-jin, who talks her mother, Concubine Kim, into it. Concubine Kim looks back on her own unhappy childhood, being sold into the life of a concubine and then married to the king, and that makes her want to support the petition. The queen, troubled by the turmoil, goes to see her imprisoned brother, and is told to 'live naturally' in the chaos. This seems to prompt the queen, because she later comes to see Hwa-ri and gives her permission for the petition and her support for the crown princess's position. When all the petitions are collected, Ji-won hands them over to the king and requests him to grant the crown princess a divorce. Tensions are the highest ever and the future of the royal family depends on it.
Finally in a last and final meeting the crown prince himself goes to the king to convince him to call off the marriage and believe in his capabilities to be a good heir to the throne. The king and Ji-won and her supporters are shown listening to Ji-won’s arguments and then the king finally agreeing to dissolve the marriage. The crown princess, no longer trapped by the constraints of a royal role, is getting ready to leave the palace. When she leaves, the women who have been with her on this journey come to pay their respects to her.

The crown princess thanks them in return and expresses her appreciation for their strength and loyalty in helping her. At the same time, Jang Won receives a series of paintings from Painter Kim for Hwa-ri. Hwa-ri, who is to marry Jang Won, has no interest in living and has completely lost the spark that was once there. She feels that she has been denied the opportunity to write her own story. However, Jang Won, as always, understands her situation and tells her that he only wants what is best for her. He tells her to do what will actually make her happy, even if it is not the path that has been chosen for her.
Honest review about Last Episode

Chun-hwa Scandal has an open ending that makes the audience wonder what is real and what is fiction. During the course of the series Hwa-ri has been telling stories of a life she desired to live, for a princess like her there was no freedom and these stories provided her with a escape. In the final pages of her book she writes, ” For all the Chun-hwas in the world, I can’t make my dream come true. But I don’t want your life to be like mine.” This line raises doubts about the romantic ending that has Hwa-ri running off with Choi Hwan. Since the central desire of Hwa-ri was to choose her own husband, her statement suggests that she may not have run off with Choi Hwan. It could mean that Hwa-ri married Jang Won and her book is her way of showing what she wanted but could not get in real life. The last episode has a quite interesting plot twist, but it is not well executed. Scandal of Chun-hwa has a big problem with the narrative and develops many important and sensitive topics without properly introducing the characters, developing the subplots, or explaining the story arcs. All these factors reduce the emotional effect, which makes the drama a rather boring show to watch.

Wow, Episode 10 of The Scandal of Chun-hwa really took things up a notch! The way Hwa-ri's choices are shaping the storyline is so intense. I didn't expect the ending to leave us with so many unanswered questions, but it's definitely thought-provoking. I really feel for Hwa-ri and her struggle to carve out her own destiny in such a rigid society.
